Milk from happy, healthy herds on small family dairy farms.

Our missions are to:

  • assist small local farms

  • provide food security for our rural community

  • rebuild local processing

  • support healthy, happy cows

We provide the missing infrastructure and technical assistance to local dairy farms while providing nutritious milk and education to our community

Follow the Cow

We believe in a different dairy future with vibrant small farms connected to thriving rural communities through nutritious food.

Healthy cows, healthy farms, healthy communities.

Columbia Community Creamery exists solely to support our local rural community of producers and consumers.

Together we are rebuilding our local food economy.

Supporting Dairy Farms

We buy milk from local farms at a great price keeping farmers farming. We also provide technical assistance and community!

Local Processing

Our milk undergoes low temperature vat pasteurization at 145F and is crafted into a variety of fresh dairy products right here in Chewelah!

Food Access

Our Chewelah store provides access to delicious local dairy and other local farm products like eggs, sourdough, honey, and beef!

Local Dairy History

First cows came to Eastern Washington in 1826 to Fort Colvile (original spelling) of the Hudson’s Bay Colony. They made and traded cheese and butter all the way to the Russians in Alaska. Dairy farming grew in this area and became an important industry and central to the community.

Since 1964, Stevens County in Northeast Washington lost many family dairy farms, dropping from about 360 dairies to just 9. There are many reasons leading to this including consolidation driven by flawed government programs and ineffective cooperative efforts.

Columbia Community Creamery began in 2021 with a meeting of locals interested in keeping dairy production local and providing food security in our community. CCC became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2022, and opened the plant and store in 2023.

Production began with glass bottled milk, and yogurt and ice cream were added in Chewelah. We just started cheese production in 2026!
